Travel tips About Langkawi
To get to langkawi, you'll gonna have to take a bus to alor setar from either spore or JB... of course JB's much cheaper but.. have to watch out for people who'll lie to u abt the time for departure juz to get u to buy tickets from them,,, waited a good 3 hrs to board the bus.. this stupid indian told us that it was at 830pm in the end i boar the bus at ard 10 plus.... worse still that stupid tumlet has the cheeks to tell mi that it was written 945pm on the tickets when its so obvious to anyone with the least bit of knowledge about the mordern numerical system that it was written 8 45pm.. wat an ass!
wuuuu shaaaa~~~~ *deep breath
where was i??
oh ya.. its abt 13 hr ride to alor setar where you'll either take a bus or taxi to the jetty to board the ferry.. there is a ferry to langkawi at every hour.
its about 1 hr 15mins journey to langkawi island.
i would suggest that you either rent a car or a motorbike to travel around coz there isnt any public transport except a taxi...
and i personally prefer the motorbike (30rm a day) coz thats the best way to see the whole island.
The best part about Langkawi is the DUTY FREE! yup you heard me rite, Duty free! so the booze r really cheap.. how cheap u say? hmmm how about 1.70 ringgit for a can of tiger? plus there a tonnes of duty free booze shop around so you'll have no prob finding booze plus the fierce compeition, i'm sure that there are bargains to be found.
you can find lodgings easily there from cheap hotels to 5 stars ones like the sheraton.
The pace of life is langkawi is slow and relax...
the first place of interest is definetely the cable car.. its about 500m above sea level n the view is gorgeous... cost you about 15 rm
there are numerous beaches around and some of them are nice...
but have to watch out for tanjiong rhu which is a nice beach with great sand and a good view.. but dun try to walk to over to the nearby island during low tide coz when the tide comes in it creates a whirlpool due to the 3 small islands infront of it. to swim in it is juz as dangerous coz the beach doesnt slope down gradually there is a sudden drop and that is where people gets caught in the whirlpool.. almost every year some tourist would die there.. so my advise is go have a look at the beach for its nice view and nice sand, u can swim very near to shore at your own risk but dun try to swim out too far or walk on the sand during the low tide...
you can have a look at the black sand beach... nothin very fantastic abt it though..
pantar cenang is nice you can spend the day there swimming and play water sports. the other places of interest are the underwater park , the reptile park, bird park, mini zoo. you can also go on tours by boat to various parts of the island eg. for eagle feeding, bats cave, mangrove swamp the fresh water lake in the middle of the island and many more.
one of the must go places will be the highest point in langkawi at the mountains about 800m above sea level.. you can see the whole of langkawi island from there.
i feel that the best thing about langkawi are the people there. they are friendly. and the kampongs dotted all around the island and beside the roads is a nice sight to behold and the great part about it are the little stores by the road side with the malayladies sellin their wares... from goreng pisang(fried banana) to the all too fantastic Ramli burger to stores selling typical malay dishes etc.... you will have to try those food coz they are so delicious!
you can also snokel at langkawi aat the marine park. they have a ferry that brings to snokel at this island near langkawi... its abt 1 hr 30 mins
there are alot of variety of fishes there and you will definetly get to see sharks as they swim up to the beach...
if you wanna club i would recommend you this club at sheraton hotel called SomePlaceElse, it nice with a live band playing... i had a great time there!
