Perhentian Islands

The sink at sympony

Sympony's Hut

what is more to say about Perhentian kecil island except that it is totally awesome!!!!!!
The different shades of blue of the sea from blue green to turqouise to blue...totally clear! it juz simply takes ur breath away.. no matter how many times i looked at the sea it never seems to make me less awed...
Guess i will have cravings for the great lassi especially the banana lassi and the strawberry milk shake... the mama club sandwish and real mash potato!!!!
life is moving at such a slow and carefree pace... stress?? what's that??

but its sad that the coral in the shallow waters are dead, but the snokelling is great too.. saw a turtle that was so huge. wow!!! and swimming with the fishes feels like i am floating in paradise... fishes of all size and color...

The locals are so relax and cool... nuthing like the typical muslims in malaysia... they smoke , drink party all day long...

Some Travel advise =p

To get to Perhentian islands you can get a bus at Larkin in JB, which is the same price in spore abt 45 dollar except that its in ringgit, to Trengganu and frm trengganu you can walk to the local bus station(500m away) and take a bus to kuala besut for abt 3-4 hr for 8 ringgit, the taxi would try to demand 80 rm from u, so i wouldnt recommend it, apparently the trip by taxi shld only cost abt 40 rm. guess the locals are trying all they can to squeeze the tourist dry.
from kuala Besut you can choose two kinds of sea transport, by speed boat which would take abt 30 min at 60rm for round trip, though we managed to get it for 50 rm, which is avaliable almost immediately or the slow boat which takes about 1 hr30 mins for 40rm and with no regular timing. Its pretty obvious that the locals are trying to earn as much as they can.
if you are returning on a friday i would advise to leave by the 4pm boat because of the friday prayers the bus would only start running from 3 -4 pm onwards.

There are 2 perehentian islands, Perhentain Kecil and Besar.
The places to stay there are cheap too, ranging from 25 ringgit above...
At perhentian kecil there are two main beaches, coral bay and long beach. i would say that if you like a quiet beach to chill out coral bay is the place. the accomdation is pretty okie at Fatimah chalet for 30 ringgit, with basic needs such as a bed and toilet and not missing the mosquito net ( it would be great if you do bring along a repelllent).
The whole atmosphere on ths island is pretty rastafarie Hint* =p

Peronaly i prefer Long beach, the water is much nicer and the waves are larger, and if you like late nitez party or place to chill out plamtree cafe 2 @ at long beach is the place! The cheapest place at long beach has got to be sympony, at 25 riggit, with common toilets. the rooms are wooden attap huts big enough to hold only 2 single beds, with palm tree leaves for the roof with holes in it. you can see the moonlight thru the holes when you sleep (great isnt it? u can save on nite lights). The only sink is outdoors infront of a snall tree with a tiny piece of broken mirror stuck between the branches. The shower room is the most basic of the basic , with the rusty shower head splewing out brown rusty water, and the toilet without a flush and the only way to clean urself after releasing is using water. typical asia way. i dun mind the shower its the toilets that's not that comfortable for me, i dun mind creepy places but it musn't smell too bad and i need enough lighting to see. but overall its great for the price u pay =p. i would reccomend the toilets at the resturants for shittin.. if not the toilets at sympony are pretty ok for peeing.=p

okie enough of toilet talk.

the food there is really good but a little pricey for malaysia with food(main course) costing abt 7 rm and above.
The must do activities are slacking and tanning on the beach, swimming in the all too fantastic sea, snokelling etc.
the music at Palmtree cafe 2 is pretty good from R n B to regge to house to trance etc.

i would really encourage you to visit Perhentian islands coz its pardise! heheh well close enough except for the toilets =p
